Enjoy the green area in Barcelona: parks and gardens
Barcelona is a city that stands out for its architecture, but there is no reason to forget that it has several parks, gardens and green spaces that will give you a break in your endless visit of museums, Gaudí’s buildings and historical neighborhoods. In the city centre, close to El Born area, you can find the Park of the Ciutadela. This park was created on the occasion of the Universal Exhibition of 1888, after demolishing a fortress hated by the inhabitants of Barcelona, and it was the first one of the city. Here are located the zoo, several interesting buildings, a nice pond with boats for rowing, and a great monumental fountain with waterfall in which Gaudí intervened. The atmosphere on Sundays is picturesque and animated. Here you will be able to lie down on grass to rest in the sun, or in the shade, as you prefer.
In Montjuïc, beside visiting the Foundation Miro or the MNAC and enjoying the sights of the city from the castle, you will be able to walk along several elegant gardens. Among them stand out Mossèn Costa i Llobera Gardens specialized in cactus, Mossèn Cinto Verdaguer Gardens, specialized in water plants, and the Botanical Garden, with plants of Mediterranean regions of the whole world.
